The New Wave Archive

Every New Wave release tells a story. Some introduced entirely new product categories, while others brought our recreations closer to the originals through new materials, features, and engineering. Together, they represent a decade of learning, refinement, and an ongoing commitment to creating thoughtfully designed collectibles inspired by iconic machines and vintage technology.

Explore the complete history of New Wave Toys and discover how our products have evolved over time. From our earliest releases to our latest innovations, each entry captures a moment in our journey – and the ideas that continue to shape what comes next.

Centipede

Released: Sept 2018

Centipede was our first RepliCade and the project that defined our approach from the very beginning. We deliberately chose 1:6 scale, a format long embraced by collectors, so our arcade machines would feel at home alongside other display pieces rather than existing in a scale all their own. The moment we held the first prototype in our hands, we knew we were headed in the right direction. It taught us that authenticity isn't created by one big feature, but by hundreds of small details. That philosophy continues to shape every product we've released since.

Tempest

Released: Feb 2019

Our next mini cabinet was another Atari classic: Tempest. It challenged us with one simple question: should every detail be perfectly to scale, even if it compromises the experience? We decided it didn't have to. By including both an authentic spinner cap and a larger one for gameplay, we introduced a philosophy that continues to guide our products today – preserve the original whenever possible, then improve it when it enhances the experience.

Street Fighter II

Released: Oct 2019

Street Fighter II challenged us in an entirely different way. Recreating the cabinet in a form that was actually playable meant making one important change. We redesigned the control panel for single-player use while preserving the feel with authentic microswitches, then included a second wired USB fight stick for competitive two-player gameplay. We also added a second ROM, Street Fighter II Turbo, giving players two distinct ways to experience the arcade classic. Hadouken!

Milestone:
  • Mini USB Fight Stick
  • First multiple ROM cabine

Hotline 16000

Released: Apr 2020

After several years focused on arcade machines, we wondered whether the same attention to detail could be applied somewhere else. The Hotline 16000 was our first attempt – a fully functional power bank hidden inside a faithful recreation of a classic personal cassette player. It reminded us that the feeling of rediscovering something you loved wasn't limited to the arcade.

The Charge Machine

Released: Apr 2020

That didn't mean we were done with the arcade – far from it. In fact, a practical problem with collecting RepliCades inspired one of our most popular products. The problem? How do you keep an entire arcade of miniature machines charged without breaking the illusion? Enter the Charge Machine - a fully functional USB charging hub disguised as a classic arcade change machine. It solved a real problem while keeping the suspension of disbelief alive in 1:6 scale.

UV Base Pad

Released: Apr 2020

We originally thought the UV Base Pad would simply be a fun accessory. Instead, it became one of our longest-running products. Inspired by the fluorescent carpets that defined so many arcades, it taught us that collectors wanted to recreate the entire environment - not just the machines.

Dragon's Lair

Released: Oct 2020

Dragon's Lair brought together everything we'd learned to that point. We knew recreating the cabinet alone wasn't enough. We recreated the original DMD scoreboard, included the authentic arcade version of the game, and celebrated its LaserDisc heritage with a miniature player hidden in a working rear compartment, complete with a removable disc. It reinforced something we still believe today: the details worth recreating are often the ones that tell the story of the original.

Milestone:
  • First HDMI Output
  • Hidden Faux LaserDisc Player
  • Functional DMD Scoreboard

1942 & 1943

Released: Oct 2021

1942 presented us with a different challenge. Capcom produced several memorable cabinet styles, and choosing which one to recreate became just as important as recreating it accurately. We ultimately landed on the iconic lowboy for its unique footprint and beautiful woodgrain finish. But we also knew many players remembered 1943 in the field-installed conversion cabinets that appeared in arcades everywhere. Rather than choose between them, we recreated both. Sometimes more than one story is worth telling.

Milestone:
  • First Dual RepliCade Launch

Asteroids

Released: Jan 2021

Asteroids gave us another opportunity to tell more than one story. Alongside a faithful recreation of the original factory cabinet, we released the Overhaul Edition - our interpretation of a machine that had spent decades on location. Faded side art, replacement blue T-molding, mismatched buttons, cigarette burns, and a battle-scarred coin door reflected the kinds of repairs and wear that accumulated over a lifetime in the arcade.

M90

Released: Apr 2022

After years of recreating arcade machines, we realized the arcade was only part of the story. So many other iconic devices filled our memories - vintage technology that held a special place in our hearts but had slowly faded from everyday life. The M90 Mini gave us an opportunity to apply everything we'd learned about authentic recreations to one of the most recognizable boomboxes of its era.

Q*bert

Released: Mar 2022

Q*bert gave us the opportunity to tell two very different stories. We released both the commercial cabinet most players remember and a second edition created in collaboration with Warren Davis, faithfully recreating the weathered prototype machine that had sat in his home for over 40 years. From the original gibberish marquee to the unique side art and control panel, it gave collectors a chance to own a version of Q*bert that very few people had ever seen.

Missile Command

Released: Nov 2022

Missile Command gave us the opportunity to revisit one of our earliest design challenges. Returning to the trackball after several years, we refined its feel with countless hours of tuning until it captured the precision players remembered. It also introduced our new CRT FX lens, adding the depth and curvature of a vintage CRT to the LCD screen. Alongside the familiar production cabinet, we also recreated Atari's original field-test prototype.

Milestone:
  • First appearance of CRT-FX lens

Food Fight

Released: Feb 2023

Food Fight gave us another opportunity to tell two stories. Alongside the production cabinet most players remember, we worked with creator Jonathan Hurd to celebrate the game's early history with a field-test edition featuring alternate artwork and a replica of the original banana-top joystick used during development. It offered collectors another rare glimpse behind the scenes of an arcade classic.

Slick Rick M90

Released: Dec 2022

The M90 also opened the door to creative collaborations. Working with legendary rapper Slick Rick and artist BUA, we transformed the boombox into a limited-edition collectible with original artwork, custom colorways, and voice prompts recorded by Slick Rick himself. The project celebrated the idea that iconic objects can continue to evolve while remaining true to what made them memorable in the first place.

Space Ace

Released: Feb 2023

Following Dragon's Lair, we turned our attention to Don Bluth's second arcade classic. Space Ace captured the same groundbreaking blend of animation and gameplay that made the original so memorable, allowing collectors to display two of the most iconic LaserDisc games in arcade history side by side.

Coke machine

Released: Oct 2023

The Coca-Cola Mini Fridge became one of our most ambitious projects to date. Before we could even begin engineering a fully functional mini refrigerator with a working coin-operated can dispenser, we first had to convince Coca-Cola to let us recreate the infamous New! Coke branding. When Stranger Things brought New! Coke back into the spotlight, the opportunity finally arrived. Alongside a classic Coca-Cola edition, the project combined one of our most challenging licenses with one of our most technically demanding products.

Milestone:
  • First functional coin operation

Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Released: Oct. 2023

Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts gave us another opportunity to release two companion titles side by side. They also marked the introduction of functional token operation, continuing our effort to make every new RepliCade feel a little more like owning the real machine.

Milestone:
  • First RepliCade with Functional Token Operation

Berzerk & Frenzy

Released: Apr 2024

Berzerk and Frenzy celebrated two of Stern's most influential arcade games, each recreated in its own dedicated cabinet while including both games on both machines. Best known for introducing speech synthesis to the arcade, Berzerk gave players talking robots, digitized warnings, and the unforgettable "COIN DETECTED IN POCKET" heard during attract mode. Its influence extended well beyond its own success, inspiring games like Robotron: 2084 and Castle Wolfenstein.

Milestones:
  • Faux CPU Boards

Zoltar

Released: July 2024

Zoltar took us in another new direction. Unlike our arcade recreations, there was no game software bringing the machine to life. The performance had to come entirely from the synchronized animation, original voice recordings, lighting, and fortune card dispenser. Reusing the same recordings that have greeted visitors for decades helped preserve the personality of the original machine, making the miniature feel remarkably true to the full-size experience.

Ciggie machine

Released: Dec 2024

The USB Cigarette Machine began as a natural follow-up to our Charge Machine, but it quickly became something more. Inspired by Clark Whittington's Art-o-mat project, which transformed retired cigarette machines into art dispensers, we realized these iconic machines still had a story worth telling. We ultimately released both a traditional cigarette machine and an Art-o-mat edition, celebrating the history of the machine as well as its remarkable second act.
